
Tom specialises in hip replacements, offering anterior approach, posterior approach and revision surgery. He uses a variety of proven techniques to tailor your operation to your needs with a focus on early recovery, and reliable long term results. He will consult on tendon injuries around the hip including proximal hamstrings avulsions.
Tom's knee practice covers all conditions affecting the knee including arthritis, malalignment, cartilage injuries, meniscus and ligament injuries, patellofemoral injuries. He offers robotic knee replacements, partial knee replacements and revision knee replacements. His sports knee practice focuses on returning patients to pre-injury function. He has trained at a leading UK centre for patellofemoral disorders, and will offer knee preserving options for cartilage defects where appropriate.


Tom's shoulder practice focuses on treating painful conditions including arthritis, rotator cuff tears, biceps tendon injuries and acromioclavicular conditions.
Tom graduated from the University of Otago with a MBChB in 2012.
Tom's domestic Fellowship Training included hip, knee and shoulder Surgery in Whangarei, focusing on contemporary joint replacement techniques and cutting edge approach to trauma and sports injuries.
He then travelled the UK and spent time in Bristol at both Southmead Hosptial and the Bristol Royal Infirmary working under leading UK knee surgeons. This included novel techniques in cartilage preserving procedures, treating ligament injuries, a high volume of patellofemoral joint surgery, and a variety of arthroplasty techniques.
Tom then moved to Edinburgh for further training in a variety of techniques for primary and revision hip and knee arthroplasty, based at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, in a unit with a reputation for excellence and strong evidence based treatment.
Tom completed 8 years of Registrar Training at Hospitals around New Zealand including Tauranga, Christchurch, Starship, Middlemore, North Shore, Auckland City, Taranaki Base, and Palmerston North culminating in being awarded his FRACS in 2023
