When repair is likely to be sucessful Tom will discuss his preferred technique for repairing your cuff tendons which may involve arthroscopic or open techniques. Compliance with post operative precautions and then extensive rehabilitation is vital for an optimal outcome from a rotator cuff repair.
Tom will treat pain and instability of the AC joint. Where appropriate he will discuss acute repair, reconstruction or debridement procedures with you.
Tom performs Reverse Shoulder replacement and alternative Arthroplasty techniques to manage end stage cuff failure and shoulder arthritis.
Tom uses techniques to address other pain generators around the shoulder including the long head of biceps, sub acromial bursa and labrum when required.
There are several phases to the recovery: initial protection phase where the arm is in a sling, early motion where the other arm is used to get the shoulder moving, strengthening, and then finally return to activities.
Patients typically find it takes 12-18 months to fully recover from a rotator cuff repair.
