Tom grew up in Timaru, before moving to Otago University to complete Medical School, graduating in 2012.

He then spent Junior Doctor years working in Gisborne, Auckland and Tauranga, before starting the New Zealand Orthopaedic Training Program. He then trained under surgeons in Christchuch, Tauranga, New Plymouth and Palmerston North before becoming a Fellow of the Australasian College of Surgeons in 2022.

He then spent a Fellowship year in Whangarei, and fell in love with the region and made plans to set up permanent practice.

Tom then travelled to complete international Fellowships in contemporary techniques spending time in the UK with the Bristol Knee unit learning procedures to manage traumatic and degenerative conditions affecting the knee.  Tom then travelled to Edinburgh to train in advanced techniques in hip and knee arthroplasty including robotic surgery.

Tom returned to Whangarei where he lives with his wife who works as a nurse at Whangarei Hospital, and 2 young children Isabelle and Theodore.

Tom has an appointment at Whangarei Hospital where he provides Orthopaedic Trauma Surgery, and an elective practice that includes Hip, Knee and Shoulder Surgery. He is heavily involved with training advanced Orthopaedic Registrars and Medical Students from Auckland University and visiting students from international universities.
