Yes, Tom will always discuss a range of treatment options, and is happy to revisit your symptoms after a trial of non operative treatment before recommending surgery
If your condition is covered by ACC you will not have to pay a surcharge. Insurance policy details vary, so you may wish to check with your insurer prior to arranging a consultation. Please contact us if you wish to pay privately and we can advise our fees.
Unfortunately ACC will only fund surgery when there is a clear traumatic cause for your condition. If ACC decline to cover your options are to be referred to the DHB by your GP, self fund surgery, or appeal the ACCÂ decision. If you are considering an appeal we recommend you use an advocate and are happy to pass on details.
Tom Operates at Southern Cross Northland Surgical Centre and Kensington Hospital.
Most surgery is day stay. You will typically be at the hospital most of the day. After your arrival time you will be checked in, then will need to wait until the theatre is ready for you. Most patients stay 1-3 hours after their operation, but it can be longer. For inpatient stays you will usually stay 1-2 nights. Discharge is usually mid to late morning.
Tom wants you to feel informed before you make a decision on how to proceed. If you have further questions please reach out. We can send further information by email, phone call or arrange a further consultation.
To see Tom you will require a referral from your GP, Physiotherapist or other treatment provider. Ask to be referred to Tom for your surgery and we will help you set up an initial consultation.
